For the third year in a row, the Hawai’i Performing Arts Festival proudly presents award winning English jazz artist Liane Carroll in concert on Saturday, January 14 at 7:30 pm at the Fairmont Orchid’s Salon Ballroom. The evening will also feature an exciting silent auction with a variety of travel, restaurant, hospitality and service donations appealing to all budgets. The event benefits HPAF’s scholarship program for young artists from Hawai’i to attend the 2012 summer festival in Waimea next July 1–22, 2012.
Liane (pronounced Lee-Ann) Carroll’s list of accolades is extensive…two BBC jazz awards for Best of Jazz and Best Vocalist, as well as Jazz Musician of the Year from Britain’s Parliamentary Awards, the ceremony for which is held in the House of Commons. She has collaborated with Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton and Ladysmith Black Mambazo.
Her latest recording, “Up and Down”, was recorded last June. According to All About Jazz, a leading website for jazz enthusiasts, “Carroll’s voice is superb–bluesy, smooth, ballsy, cheeky, romantic, heartbreaking, and never less than honest. This combination makes Carroll eminently capable of performances of tremendous emotional intensity….”

The Hawai’i Performing Arts Festival is dedicated to improving music education as well as advancing classical music and musical theater. The festival offers scholarships to young artists from Hawaii, as well as numerous free concerts.
Zen Michael Kuriyama, a 2011 graduate of Parker School in Waimea and three-year HPAF alumnus writes: "I’m a freshman musical theatre major at Manhattanville College in New York,…I was cast in the spring musical, "A Little Night Music" by Stephen Sondheim…Not only am I succeeding and improving in the vocal performance area, I am also doing extremely well in Music Theory, having obtained the highest grade on our mid-term. HPAF has helped me in every musical way!".
HPAF also plays a significant role in bringing tourist dollars to Hawai’i Island.
HPAF is supported by the County of Hawai’i Research and Development/Hawai’i Tourism Authority, as well as the Hawai’i State Cultural Foundation, and the Richard Smart Fund.
